MAC lung disease is a type of bacterial lung infection caused by Mycobacterium avium complex. It’s a type of nontuberculoous mycobacterial lung disease (NTM lung disease). MAC lung disease can cause symptoms like dry or wet cough, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, fatigue, and night sweats. MAC lung disease is typically treated with a combination of prescription antibiotics, but sometimes the infection does not respond to them.
